Overview
When Hestia answers a question with a data table, the grid on screen shows only the first rows of the result, not the complete dataset. An export allows you to download the complete result of that query as a CSV file, at full volume, without leaving Hearth.
On the Exports page, you can see every CSV export that your workspace started, watch an export finish, and download an export while it is available.
How it works
An export starts from a Hestia data-table result. When a query returns more rows than the grid can show, Hearth pins a banner that states "Showing the first M of N rows." When exports are enabled, Hearth also adds an “Export all N rows” button.
An export re-runs the exact query that Hestia already wrote and validated for a specific result, and then streams the full output to a CSV file. You never write or send SQL yourself.
The size of the scan determines what happens next:
| Scan size | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Smaller scan | Starts immediately and runs in the background. |
| Large scan, which is a scan over a cost threshold | Pauses as “Awaiting confirm” and shows a cost preflight, which estimates how much information the export scans. Someone must confirm the estimate before the job runs. |
Each export moves through the following states: Awaiting confirm, Running, Ready or Failed, and then Expired. The Exports page updates automatically for a job in flight, so you do not have to reload the page.
When a job reaches Ready, a download link appears. Hearth splits a very large result into parts and shows one download link for each part. The export and its link expire 7 days from the time of the original request. Hearth then removes the file, and the row shows “Expired.” If you still need the information, start the export again.
Where to find exports
Navigate to the Exports page (More (⋯) > Exports). Exports is not one of the always-visible navigation groups.
You usually start an export from a Hestia data-table result, with the "Export all N rows" button on the truncated-result banner. You track and download the export on the Exports page.
What you can see and do
The Exports page lists the exports of your workspace, newest first. The following table describes the elements of each row:
| Element | Description |
|---|---|
| Status pill | Shows one of the following states: Awaiting confirm, Running, Ready, Failed, or Expired. |
| Row count | Shows the number of rows that the finished export wrote. Before the export finishes, Hearth shows an estimate instead. |
| Size scanned | Shows how much information the export scanned, along with a cost estimate. The cost estimate is display-only. |
| Requester and expiration | Show who requested the export and when it expires. |
| Download CSV link | Appears when the export is Ready. A very large export shows one link for each part, such as Part 1 and Part 2. A failed export shows the reason instead. |
Exporting a full result
To export the complete result of a query, do the following:
- Ask Hestia a question that returns a data table. If the result is larger than the grid shows, a banner appears that states "Showing the first M of N rows."
- On the banner, click Export all N rows. A small scan starts immediately. A large scan shows a cost confirmation with the estimate, which an authorized user must confirm.
- Navigate to More (⋯) > Exports.
- When the status changes to Ready, click Download CSV. For a very large export, click the link for each part.
Note: Download the file within 15 minutes of clicking the download link, and before it expires.
Troubleshooting common issues
| Issue | What to do |
|---|---|
| The export remains in the "Awaiting confirm" state | The export is a large scan that waits for confirmation of the estimated cost. An analyst or higher must confirm it before it runs. The in-app prompt asks for an administrator. |
| You cannot start an export | To start an export, you need the analyst role or higher. Every role can view the Exports list. Ask an administrator if you need to run an export. |
| You cannot download an export that another user started | To download an export that another user started, you need an administrator-tier permission. |
| The download states that the export expired | Hearth removes a ready export after 7 days. Start the export again to produce a new file. |
| The export failed | The row shows the reason. Hearth cannot export some queries at full scale, such as a very broad scan or a query that does not meet the read-only safety checks. Ask Hestia to narrow the time window or to aggregate the result, and then export the smaller result. |
